For That Special Family "Get A Way"
Captain Scott Fratcher/Co-captain and Chef Allison Thompson
Outstanding husband and wife yachting professionals with the combined talents and experience of six crew positions and more! One would be hard pressed to find another team to match Scott and Allison’s 25 year track record, combination of highly-developed skills and 200,000+ sea miles.
Captain Scott started his sailing career working as a salvage diver on the US West coast and bought his first sailboat, a home building project, in 1986. At just 22 years old he sailed into Sausalito, north of San Francisco, where he met Allison Thompson. She grew up in Tiburon living on a converted tugboat and working at her dad’s sailing school. Scott and Allison met at a Christmas party on his boat. He told her his dream of making a life on the sea and sailing away into the sunset. It was love at first sight and the two have been inseparable for over 25 years ever since.
As a team they have sailed over 200,000 sea miles each, including the Pacific coast of Mexico for seven years, running a 104’ commercial charter catamaran in Alaska for five years, two trips to the Galapagos, three Atlantic crossings, and many loops around the South Pacific working on private yachts, charter boats and sailing their own 50ft gaff-rigged steel ketch.
In 2007 Scott and Allison were critical members of ‘Team Earthrace’ where they helped set multiple fastest ocean crossing speedboat records and were lucky enough to be involved in the setting of the ‘UIM Round The World Speedboat Record’ that still stands at 60 days, shattering the old record by over 14 days.
Scott is a noted author with over ten books (see books) to his credit including one on underwater photography with inexpensive point and shoot cameras. He enjoys sharing his wide knowledge of sailing, travel destinations and photography with guests. Add in Allison’s gentle manner, delicious cuisine and attention to comfort and it’s easy to understand why so many guests come back to sail with this remarkable team again and again.
Allison is an accomplished chef with a natural flair in the galley and a passion for healthy gourmet meals. Whether you’re looking for hearty American fare, Mediterranean, Asian, Mexican, vegetarian, vegan and even gourmet raw food, Allison’s meals tantalize everyone’s palate. The enticing aromas of her daily creations tempt the taste buds and her artful presentation always pleases the eye. Allison is a graduate chef and trained instructor from the Living Light Culinary Institiute of Fort Bragg, California.
In addition to her skills in the galley, Allison holds two captain’s licenses: RYA Yachtmaster 200 ton sail/power/ocean/commercial and a 100 Ton USCG Captain’s license.
Twenty-five years of charter experience and counting, Scott and Allison’s goal is unchanged - to make each guest’s time aboard special and memorable, to make each day an exciting adventure. They truly embrace and embody (pun intended) a healthy lifestyle and zest for living, treating each day as a special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They may have sailed around the world more than once, but they’ve never lost sight of the fact that each of us ‘only goes around once’ in the cycle of life.
